The A to Z of Barda

Night sailing
Sailing at night is not something we do very often however here are a few pointers for when we do.

  • Ensure the masthead tricolour is lit if we are under sail or our nav lights if we are under engine power - these are switched on at the control panel by the nav table.
  • Wear a lifejacket and clip-on whilst you are on deck.
  • Be careful with torches and lights in the cabin to preserve the night vision of those on watch.
  • If you are on watch then don't doze off - you ned to be keeping a look out for everything from nets to threats from fast moving commercial traffic.
  • Keep the powerful lantern in the cockpit and use it to gain the attention of those on the bridge of any threatening commercial traffic - if this fails go for a white flare.
  • Keep safe at all times, but if we are racing then you also need to keep it fast.
