Beneteau First Class 10's around the world

The Beneteau website suggests that they built 114 First Class 10’s and it would be nice to try and locate as many as possible so we could share experiences and tuning tips to keep these girls competitive on the race course.

If you have an FC10 then I’d love to hear from you – if we can get enough together to make it worthwhile then I might put together a small forum. For now I'm simply posting a list of the owners and boats I know about with perhaps a picture or two and we’ll take it from there (click on the boat names in organge to see any pictures or further information I have on each of the boats).

January 2010; Ciel is a First Class 10 owned by Peter Dulson in Sydney, Australia. It has been modified a bit with new keel, rudder and rigging and is raced at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht club in Pittwater.

January 2010; Michael Parent has arrived with his First Class 10 'First Kiss' which he keeps at his residence on Admiralty inlet of puget sound - sounds amazing. He's planning an extensive refit and would like to see what other owners have done to provide direction. If you send me any info through the website or by email and I'll share it .

September 2009; Anthony Rendall contacted me to introduce his First Class 10 'Ava' formerly known as Tanagra, based in Sète (France), on the Mediterranean. He used to live in Argentina and knows of another FC10 parked up in the Yacht Club Olivos in Buenos Aires. There are pictures of Ava on his sailing blog: http://mareeorum.blogspot.com/ - all in French though!

July 2009; Mark Henderson emailed to let me know about probably the most famous racing First Class 10 called L'Outrage. I was aware of this boart which seems to always do well at Key West Race week. It would be good to hear from the owner Bruce Gardner who must have a huge number of go faster tips for us! Mark also tells me about another Annapolis FC10 called "No Name" and owned by John White which he describes as a perennial winner. Come on Mark and John, tell us more!.

July 2009; Tony Jordan sent us this message. "Just thought I'd let you know the current location of an FC10 that I've spent many sea-miles on (mostly East Coast offshore racing). She's called Shavonne and lives at Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club in Suffolk. Owned from new in about 1984 by Tony Theobald. Tony is a good friend of mine and has recently celebrated his 80th (yes, eight zero) birthday by taking the old girl to Holland for a few days (on his own!). She's not raced for several years but can still give a thrill and we're hoping to make another crossing to Holland next month. Hope this is of interest.

Tony, yes this is of interest!

June 2009; Erik Wijngaarden sent us some shots of his FC10 Frou Frou which he's preparing for the Deltaloyd 24 hour race in August. He has a new mainsail to helop them along and it looks like Frou frou is getting a new bottom to go with it.

June 2009; Joel Andrews races his FC10 'Macushla' in the southern Gulf of Mexico but also notes that he enjoys sailing her short handed.

May 2009; Gary Fung cruises 'Maniac' in Seward, Alaska... There's some great video.

April 2009; Steinar Waler has 'First Again' which was originally based in England and crossed over to Norway in 2007. Steinar sails her in Norway and also cruises to Sweden and asks if I have a polar diagram for the Beneteau First Class 10? Well I don't have access to one yet, so if you do know where we can lay our hands on the polars then please let me know and I'll pass them onto Steinar.

Jan 2009; Marco and Massimo Pieri have purchased Helium which has a bowsprit fitted.

Weird but true... Have been contacted by a very cheery Don Barda from Ohio USA. Great name Don!

Aug 2008; My thanks also to William-F. Pralong from Switzerland who has revealed that there are no less than five FC10's on Lake Geneva - I'll post pictures and more details once I have them.

Nov 2008; At last some news from down under - Jack Setton emailed to report there are two FC10's in Australia which are now both on my list. Jack sails all year round out of Port Philip Bay, which with the autumnal gales battering the UK at the moment sounds very nice indeed.
